Fencing for Cattle

Cattle are generally easy to fence - but the grass is always greener on the other side!

Beef animals often need more substantial fencing than dairy animals. Traditional barbed wire is the most common in commercial situations, this can be combined with stock fence to contain younger animals as with a suckler herd.

Electric fence is the most cost effective fencing method so long as it is checked regularly and vegetation kept trimmed to prevent loss of power.
For more information on this refer to the electric fencing section for cattle.

A combination of the two methods can be, and is often used.
